Welders who enjoy a fun atmosphere, can carry heavy loads, and do not mind a noisy, bustling atmosphere may find working in a theme park to be ideal. Theme parks are not typically a large employer of welders, but they do need those who have welding degrees to create and maintain park attractions. Below is an outline of what a welder in a theme park does.

What Do Theme Park Welders Do?
Theme park welders help to create a vast array of metallic structures. Welders constructed Spaceship Earth at Disney’s Epcot Center in Florida, one of the most iconic theme park attractions in the world despite the fact that it was built well over three decades ago. In recent times, welders have built Disney’s latest track rides, the frame for Star Tours’ C3PO, and the interior structure of the large sculpture of Arial and Flounder at the Art of Animation Resort. Welders also help to provide special effects that are used in theme parks all over the world. The Attraction Services, a California-based company that has worked with Universal, Insomniac, and other amusement parks, notes that it uses a sophisticated welding process to create unique attractions.

In addition, maintenance technicians and ride mechanics are often required to have welder training. Those who work in these fields are tasked with inspecting, maintaining, repairing and/or modifying rides as needed.

What Are the Job Opportunities?
Disney is by no means the only amusement park looking for qualified welders. If you are interested, you should spend some time researching amusing parks to see if you have the qualifications they are looking for and/or if you are willing to relocate to obtain those jobs.

Many of these places need maintenance technicians and ride mechanics who can ensure that rides remain safe and in good working order. In some instances, these mechanics may be tasked with walking around the park and looking for potential ride problems that could lead to accidents or mechanical problems. A ride mechanic or maintenance technician may also be asked to upgrade or modify a ride so that it remains attractive to the general public.

Naturally, working at a theme park is not the ideal job for every single welder. However, welders who are physically fit, do not mind working long hours and don’t mind being around large crowds may find working in a theme park to be fulfilling. Theme park welders may either work with various parks to help design and create attractions or work full-time at a single park helping to keep rides and attractions safe and in good working order.
